Top 10 Albums of 2018
Surprise. Its nobody. Nobody made this list. There is no list.
I hate end of the year lists. I'm horrible at at making decisions. I'm horrible at putting why I enjoy someone's music into words. I just like what I like. That's why I don't do music reviews and get other people to do those for me.
One of the things that holds me back the most is worrying if what I make will be good enough. I worry about it to the point where I will have something completed and just not publish it. In fact, this post has been in my drafts for 2 weeks. I always just end up tossing away ideas because I'm afraid they aren't good enough. I know what you're thinking. "you're the best at interviews. You're like the Airbud of interviewers" and you're right.
(Please call me The Airbud of music interviews)
Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors. His books are absolute masterpieces that contain little nuggets of genius insight to society and cultural awareness.
One of my favorite quotes by Vonnegut is this:
"The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
What a beautiful man with a beautiful, beautiful brain.
If you created something this year, whether it be an album, a poem, a painting, or a dumb blog post, YOU STILL CREATED SOMETHING that would have never existed otherwise. Be proud of that. You created something that made life bearable for yourself, and for those that had to opportunity to experience your art. Everyone has the ability to create, but not everyone has the courage to do it.
So this is for everyone that didn't make some top 10 list. Keep Creating.
