We first talked to Samia last year in our Meet The Music interview. The talented singer/songwriter hasn't slowed down, and has been hard at work since we last caught up.The NYC native released singles 'Lasting friend' and 'Paris' just yesterday.
Samia immediately captures your attention with her distinctive vocals and her raw, witty lyrics that have come to characterize her songwriting.
'Lasting Friend' is accompanied by a music video. The video begins with the lyrics "I'm not ashamed of my past" repeated over and over as everyone breaks out into the strangest Zumba routine ever created.
Samia gives a bit of back story on the video:
“I have this party anecdote about how the boys in middle school used to line up in the gym and touch my boobs. It's as funny as it is difficult for me to grapple with, because it's how I learned to measure my worth. I made a lot of friends that way and it's hard to unlearn that routine; we were all trying to make sense of the roles we were assigned.”
Samia is currently working on her debut album, and is set to tour with Donna Missal and Hippo Campus later this year. Samia has been someone we've been keeping an eye on over the past year, and we're looking forward to what the future holds for this extremely talented artist.
